Their eyes met across the room. It was love at first sight.
Or was it?
His life flashed before his eyes, he saw himself holding her in his arms. No not in a state of love. In fact it was anything but.
Soaked in blood, her crimson face lit up in the silver sky. Bathing in moon glow, she looked so perfect, so pure. Almost alive. Preserved in a state of suspended animation. Just waiting to arise from her slumber.
He was in a state of shock, dread and utmost despair. Crying profusely, his eyes were as red as the blood that had flown freely from her wrists. It was too late. The damage had been done. And it was in magnanimous proportions.
For an eternity, his life had been altered. Before he knew it he was on the wrong side of 70 and on the far end of sanity. Finally transforming into a sick , twisted human being gutted by that experience so long ago. A tryst with fate that left him haunted till the grave. And perhaps beyond. The footsteps of two well built attendants walked towards him to adjust his straitjacket.
His end was near. Perhaps a tad too prolonged, but the end nevertheless. As the tapping of footsteps grew nearer it transformed into the scribbling sounds of pen on paper. He had arisen from his comatose state. About time too. For he was now in the present. Studying for his medical degree.
At least trying to, while catching the ending words of the lecturer.
“That concludes today’s demonstration on how to perform an autopsy on a female corpse.”
